Iowa Motorcyclist Caught Traveling 123 MPH in 30-MPH Zone Monday, July 20, 2009
CHARLES CITY, Iowa — A New Hampton man is charged with eluding authorities after a motorcycle chase that officials say reached 123 mph.
The Floyd County sheriff's office says the chase happened Saturday night after a deputy tried to stop Michael Shekleton for a traffic violation in Charles City.
Authorities said Shekleton took off. The pursuit lasted about 20 minutes and went from Charles City into rural Floyd County and back to Charles City.
Shekleton was caught when he tried to hide behind a building.
Shekleton also is charged with excessive speeding, cited for driving with speeds up to 123 mph in a 30-mph zone and charged with 14 counts of failure to obey a stop sign or signal, unsafe passing and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.
